Burgas Airport Transfers

1. Sunny Beach is 16.5 miles north-east – Burgas Airport transfers are possible within 30 minutes. The purpose-built coastal resort features high-rises, a vibrant nightlife and a Blue Flag beach. Its calm waters are perfect for swimming, watersports and pedalos.
2. Nessebar, the ‘Pearl of the Black Sea’, is a similar distance away, and lies north on a rocky peninsula. The old town of this Black Sea city is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Take in the cobbled streets and ancient churches, including fifth-century St Sofia’s, plus the Byzantine baths. Wander over the bridge to the newer part of town.
3. Sozopol is 27 miles south-east, or 40 minutes by Burgas Airport transfer. The town has an art and film festival, and is this coastline’s oldest city. Take in the wood and stone houses of the old town, the archaeological museum and art gallery. There are also two beaches here.
4. Burgas itself is six miles south – cover them in 10-15 minutes from the airport. Its Church of St Cyril and Methodius has incredible stained-glass windows, while the Ethnographic Museum is also worth visiting.
5. Varna is 75 miles away – head north from the airport and cover them within two hours. This port city, Bulgaria’s ‘summer capital’, has a bar-lined waterfront prom, archaeological museum housing Greek, Roman and Ottoman antiquities, plus the nineteenth-century Primorski Park.
6. Pomorie is within six miles, lying to the east. A Burgas Airport transfer whisks you there in under 15 minutes. Along with the bars and sandy beaches of any resort, you’ll find history, including traditional wooden houses, a Thracian tomb and the saline lake, a haven for birdlife.

2. Strandja Nature Park is just over 50 miles south, roughly an hour and 20 minutes away. It’s perfect for hikers, and offers an area of dramatic scenery; think rolling wooded hills, rivers, meadows and peaceful villages.
3. The Salt Museum, Pomorie, lies nearly seven miles east, with a maximum airport transfer time of 15 minutes. 4. Balchik Palace and Botanical Gardens is 100 miles north up the coast – allow two and a half hour for your Burgas Airport transfer. The palace and gardens belonged to the Romanian Queen Maria. There are different architectural styles, while highlights include the exquisite rose gardens, pavilions, ponds and rare plants.
5. St Anastasia Island is 20 miles away, 40 minutes from the airport. It’s based less than a mile off the coast near Chernomorets. See the frescoes in the ancient church; the volcanic rock island once housed a monastery, which later became a prison. There’s also a lighthouse.
6. The Sea Garden at Burgas is some seven miles south; cover them in 15 minutes with Burgas Airport transfers. Expect promenades, a pier and summer theatre performances. Built in 1910, it now incorporates rare plant species, fountains and more.

Specially adapted toilets are clearly signposted, while there are ramps throughout the airport and lift transfers to aircraft, along with special vehicles offering transport through the terminal. There’s also a telephone help point outside Departures, while staff are trained to help those with reduced mobility. Equally, as an EU member state, Bulgaria must comply with European law on disabled access.
