Beijing Capital International Airport Transfers

• Wanping lies some 50 miles south-west; you can be there in 50 minutes from Beijing Capital. This walled city features the famous Marco Polo Bridge over the Yonding River, dating from 1189, hand-carved with stone lions. Check out the museum and Ming dynasty gate, too.
• Gubei Water Town, at nearly 80 miles’ distance to the north-east, is a 90-minute Beijing Airport transfer. Surrounded by water, this town has a reservoir, canals and a backdrop of green mountains, Visit the rice wine distillery and the looms of the traditional dye house.
• Cuandixia is 75 miles away; it can take a couple of hours from Beijing. But the trip pays off: this village is a lovely rural escape. See 500-year-old courtyard houses and cobblestone alleyways, and soak up the atmosphere and charm.
• Tianjin is a two-hour Beijing Airport transfer, being some 90 miles to the south-east. This international commerce hub is steeped in history; see the Five Ancient Avenues and Porcelain House, a traditional French building. Ride the Eye of Tianjin ferris wheel.
• Qinglongxia Scenic Resort is around 40 miles or an hour away. Escape the city and enjoy a boat trip as you take in the scenery. There are varied activities here, from gentle swimming to something more adrenaline-fuelled like rock climbing.
• Tanzhe is 45 miles south-west, or a 70-minute Beijing Capital transfer. The main attraction is the Temple of the Pool and Zhe Tree, with its splendid architecture and mountain setting. Check out the Imperial Apartments and pine-lined path to the Mountain Gate and Halls of the Kings of Heaven and Great Hero.

1. The Ming Tombs are 34 miles north-west, or a 50-minute Beijing Capital transfer. The underground tombs of 13 of the 16 Ming emperors are here, and you can visit three of the mausoleums.
2. The Shilinxia Glass Viewing Platform is just over 60 miles away – allow 90 minutes to arrive from the airport. The circular platform juts out over the Jingdong Stone Forest Gorge, 400m above it. It’s a breathtaking way to see the surrounding scenery; and it claims to be the world’s largest glass platform of its kind.
3. The Great Wall at Badaling is nearly 50 miles or just over an hour’s Beijing Capital Airport transfer. The Great Wall never disappoints, and Badaling offers astounding views plus easily navigable sections – there are even cable cars and chairlifts.
4. Longqingxia Gorge lies 65 miles north-west, meaning a Beijing Airport transfer time of 1 hour 45 minutes. In winter, there’s an ice lantern festival, and the valley offers incredible views, dramatic cliffs and ancient temples alongside activities including bungee jumping.
5. Xiangshan (Fragrant Hills) Park is 25 miles south-west, making for a 45-minute Beijing Airport transfer. This popular scenic area comprises forested hills, peaks, historic buildings and relics from the Jing dynasty. Enjoy nature and some fresh air as well.
6. The Forbidden City lies 20 miles south-west; it’s a 40-minute Beijing International transfer. This palace complex in the city’s Dongcheng district is surrounded by imperial gardens and temples and, along with its Palace Museum, is simply unmissable.

Most travellers are pretty happy with disability access at Beijing Capital, from modified phones to loos and lifts. You’ll find ramps throughout terminal buildings, as well as on each level of the parking areas, and you can organise a wheelchair through your airline. Help is also available from the Beijing Airport Ground Service Corporation, while a shuttle bus connects all terminals. Staff receive accessibility training, and the airport was due to assess its accessibility arrangements in 2024.
