Frankfurt Airport Transfers

• Baden-Baden lies around 100 miles south – and it’s worth the two-hour Frankfurt Airport transfer. An elegant and popular Black Forest spa town, it boasts art, eateries, cafes and boutiques as well as thermal springs. Don’t miss the imposing, chateau-style Kurhaus.
• Heidelberg is an hour’s drive south, 50 miles away. With unspoiled medieval and Renaissance architecture, this pedestrian-friendly city is incurably romantic. Climb up to the castle, visit fine churches like the fifteenth-century Church of the Holy Ghost and stroll around the Old Town.
• Hanau is 20 miles north-east, or well within a 30-minute Frankfurt Airport transfer, where the Kinzig and Main rivers meet. Take in the Marktplatz, the eighteenth-century town hall, in the birthplace of the Brothers Grimm. The Goldsmiths’ House is another highlight.
• Mainz is 20 miles south-west – no more than a 30-minute run from Frankfurt Airport – on the Rhine. With its rich history, Mainz is packed with attractions including the Gutenberg Museum. But the main draw is the lovely cathedral, much of which dates from the eleventh century.
• Büdingen is a 45-minute Frankfurt Airport transfer, lying 38 miles to the north-east. This captivating walled town features a marketplace with half-timbered buildings, old town hall and a medieval castle. St Mary’s Church is also well worth visiting.
• Darmstadt is 17 miles south; be there in 25 minutes from Frankfurt. Admire numerous Art Nouveau houses, catch an exhibition and climb the 48m Wedding Tower. The Russian Chapel and some great museums are also here, while Ernst-Ludwig Haus houses the German Academy of Language and Literature.

1. Eltz Castle is 85 miles north-west, or a 90-minute Frankfurt Airport transfer. The impressive structure and its spires and turrets are surrounded by forest. Drink in 850+ years of history – visit the knights’ hall and medieval kitchens, and see the armour and weaponry on the walls, plus numerous artworks.
2. Wertheim Village lies nearly 60 miles south-east, meaning you can be there within an hour. More than 110 shops are here, incorporating incredible discounts from top designers such as Ralph Lauren. Enjoy a drink or grab something to eat while you’re here.
3. Frankenstein’s Castle is a 35-minute Frankfurt Airport transfer, 22 miles south. Made famous by the spooky story, the medieval hilltop castle has a restaurant and enjoys panoramic views. It’s easy to see why this place (probably) inspired Shelley’s terrifying tale!
4. Kobelt Zoo lies barely three miles north, meaning Frankfurt Airport transfers in minutes. This family-friendly petting zoo is low-key, open-air and home to birds, animals and reptiles, including pigs and goats, parakeets and ponies. There’s a great café, too.
5. The VGF Transport Museum, barely five miles north and minutes from the airport, can be combined with a trip to the zoo. It displays a range of trams and other vehicles, plus old signalling equipment and ticket machines, making it ideal for enthusiasts and kids alike.
6. Felsenmeer is located 30 miles south, or a 45-minute run from Frankfurt Airport. Formed by erosion and tectonic movements, this nature park comprises massive rock flows. Hiking routes cross the rivers of boulders to lead through the surrounding forest. Perfect for escaping town and if you love being outdoors.
