Barcelona El Prat Airport Transfers

• Girona lies 73 miles north – allow a couple of hours for your Barcelona Airport transfer. The old town is a mesh of houses, churches and cobbled streets, dominated by the cathedral. Stroll by the River Onyar, flanked by brightly coloured houses, and explore the Jewish history museum, Arab baths and Romanesque monastery.
• Figueres lies 80 miles north just beyond Girona; again the trip should take roughly two hours. Visit the sprawling eighteenth-century castle, plus the toy museum and Teatre-Museu Dalí (see below) of this delightful town.
• Sitges is 17 miles or 40 minutes up the coast. With its whitewashed buildings, there are beaches galore, elegant modern art museums and architecture with exciting nightlife plus a thriving gay scene. Sitges also has an international film festival and carnival.
• Tarragona is 53 miles south-west – allow an hour and 20 minutes for Barcelona Airport transfers. Similar in size to Girona, it’s famous for its Roman ruins including the forum and amphitheatre. Check out the imposing cathedral and archaeological museum.
• Tossa de Mar lies 53 miles north up the coast, or a transfer time of 1 hour 30 minutes. Some areas of this Costa Brava resort date from the 1300s, and there’s a hill-top fort alongside three main beaches, plus the Roman villa Ametllers.
• Barcelona itself is within eight miles or 20 minutes by airport transfer. Gaudi is in evidence everywhere, from the Casa Batlló to the masterpiece that is the Sagrada Familia. Explore the Gothic Quarter and world-famous Ramblas as you enjoy the style, energy and superb culture of Spain’s second city.

1. Montserrat Monastery is 40 miles or 1 hour 15 minutes away by Barcelona Airport transfer. This mountain-based Benedictine abbey affords stunning views and dates from the eleventh century. Look out for the statue of Our Lady of Montserrat.
2. The Salvador Dali Museum is nearly 100 miles north (two and a half hours away) in a former theatre that’s a monument to surrealism, with paintings, jewellery and art installations. See the art and archaeology museum, the Museu de l’Empordà, too.
3. Park Güell is 11 miles or a 30-minute Barcelona Airport transfer. It comprises 17 hectares with incredible stone structures like the Gaudi dragon fountain, decorated with beautiful tiling. Take in city views from a mosaic bench at the top.
4. PortAventura Park is almost 60 miles south-west and worth the 90-minute airport run to enjoy three theme parks in one! PortAventura park has rides, entertainment and ‘visits’ to China, Mexico and Polynesia. The aquatic park has its own beach, while Ferrari Land is for speed lovers with Europe’s tallest, fastest rollercoaster.
5. Cala Fonda is 65 miles south down the coast or roughly a 90-minute run from El Prat. This is a white-sand stretch that not everyone knows about. It’s surrounded by lush greenery and orange-coloured cliffs. Settle in for a relaxing afternoon.
6. Montjuic is less than nine miles away, or a 20-minute hop from the airport. This imposing hill leads up to the palatial National Museum of Catalan Art and a complex of museums, the 1992 Olympic site, exotic gardens and panoramic views.

Barcelona El Prat is a highly accessible airport, with lifts, ramps, escalators, lowered phones and disabled loos. And, since Spain is an EU member state, it must comply with European law on disabled access.

There’s also a no-charge assistance service for anyone with reduced mobility – book this at least 48 hours before travelling through Spanish airport operator AENA and report to a dedicated meeting point. Additionally, talk to your airline if you require additional help, whatever your particular need.
