Tokyo International Airport Transfers

• Hakone is some 50 miles away, or a Haneda airport transfer time of 1 hour 10 minutes. This popular getaway has a long history as a hot-spring town. You’ll find art galleries here, an active volcano and astounding views of Mt Fuji.
• Kawagoe lies 40-odd miles north-west, i.e. a 70-minute Tokyo International transfer. Think traditional buildings and quaint stores and eateries in this castle town. The bell in the 16m tower rings four times daily, while Hikawa Shrine hosts various festivals.
• Kamakura is a 45-minute hop from Haneda, being 30 miles to the south-west. This coastal town is known for its historical monuments, temples and shrines, and is a former capital. See the towering bronze Buddha and the area’s largest Shinto shrine.
• Chiba City is a similar distance east. The region is home to Narita Airport, but has so much more to offer. Check out the art gallery with its traditional Japanese ink paintings, the zoo with its pandas and Chiba City Folk Museum, housed in a replica of Inohana Castle.
• Yokohama is within a 15-mile, 20-minute Haneda International transfer from Tokyo Airport. Love the ocean views and gorgeous Chinatown food. Walk off dinner at Yamashita Park or indulge in some retail therapy. The Ferris wheel here used to be the world’s tallest.
• Nikko is situated over 100 miles north; allow a couple of hours from Tokyo International. This place is known for the ornately decorated Toshogu Shrine and forest hiking trails. Shinkyo Bridge and the 75m Kirifuri waterfall are equally unmissable.

1. Lake Kawaguchi is a 90-minute, 80-mile Tokyo International Airport transfer west. Go for the panoramas over Mt Fuji, hot springs and attractions including a theme park. See cherry blossom in spring, red maple leaves in autumn or snow-capped mountain in winter.
2. Kurkku Fields is 40-odd minutes south-east, some 26 miles away. Its 74 acres help reconnect city folk with nature, by introducing farming and eco-friendly energy and water practices. Visit the farm-to-table eatery and the on-site art galleries.
3. Enoshima lies 35 miles south-west and is a 70-minute Haneda Airport transfer away. Connected to the mainland by a bridge, this hilly island houses myriad cultural monuments, quirky cafes and more. Again, it’s a great place for Mt Fuji views on clear days.
4. Mt Takao is located around 50 miles west, 80 minutes from Haneda. Many consider this mountain to be sacred. Local hiking trails are well maintained and suit all abilities. Other pluses include the monkey park and the eateries serving tororo soba noodles. There’s a cable car, too.
5. Shibuya Sky is 14 miles north; be there within 30 minutes from Haneda. This 360° open-air observation deck stands 230m above ground and is Shibuya district’s highest point. Look down from the ‘Sky Edge’ for uninterrupted, breathtaking vistas – or lie in a hammock and gaze at the clouds.
6. Tokyo National Museum lies 15 miles or a 25-minute Tokyo International transfer north. Japan’s oldest museum is a treasure-house of samurai swords, Buddha statues, ceramics and kimonos; you won’t find a bigger collection of Japanese art. It’s surrounded by Ueno Park’s shrines and winding paths.

Haneda Airport was designed with universal access in mind, in collaboration with a panel of people with different disabilities. There are adapted loos, multiple elevators, electric cart pick-up and wheelchairs all available here, while assistance animals are also permitted. Video screens in lifts allow deaf passengers to communicate in sign language in emergencies. Tokyo Haneda Airport has also adopted the sunflower lanyard scheme for those with hidden disabilities.
