5. London is within 40 miles, and if you’re bored of it, famously you’re bored of life! Whatever you want from a city, London has it all. Ride the London Eye to take it all in, and make time to stroll places like the bookstalls of the South Bank or Borough Market.
6. Basildon is 11 miles away so reachable within 25 minutes. This large town offers plentiful dining opportunities, a welcoming, vibrant theatre and the 460-acre Langdon Visitor Centre nature reserve. Meanwhile, the Eastgate centre, in the heart of town, boasts dozens of top-name stores.

5. Southchurch Hall is again an easy three-mile airport transfer away. Explore the gardens of this Grade 1 moated medieval manor house, not forgetting the tea room! It’s a tranquil spot away from the hustle and bustle of town.
6. Southend Museum & Planetarium has some fascinating exhibits, plus the chance to experience the wonders of the night sky, with talks changing throughout the year.

Disabled facilities include wheelchair-accessible toilets and hearing loops (including mobile ones, plus staff who sign). The ticket desk inside the terminal is the special assistance meeting point.

Help is available throughout your journey, from check-in to baggage retrieval, and all airlines flying from Southend accommodate manually operated wheelchairs.

Guide dogs are welcome. The airport even offers sessions with therapy dogs to help calm nervous travellers, while its blue wristband scheme helps those with a hidden disability such as dementia or autism.
