Catch a film or play, eat out, shop or stroll through the Attenborough Nature Reserve.
6. Rotherham is 20 miles south-west, reachable within 30 minutes by motorway. Visit the gardens of York Gate, the Minister Church of All Saints whose roots originate in the tenth century, or hang out in Clifton Park and museum. You’ll also find varied dining and shopping choices.

The racetrack is one of the oldest of its kind in Britain, holding 36 fixtures yearly, including the St Leger Festival. Dress up and enjoy some food, a glass of bubbly and a flutter!
2. Yorkshire Wildlife Park: This is only a few miles distant, so you can be here promptly. The conservation centre is home to dozens of species, from polar bears and lions to tigers. There are also regular special events and an educational programme.
3. Conisbrough Castle: At just 10 miles or 20 minutes away by Doncaster Sheffield Airport transfer, Conisbrough features a circular Norman keep tower. Dating from the twelfth century, it enjoys some stunning views. The surrounding grassy areas make good picnic spots.
